People are being urged to support Carlisle’s traders after flash flooding hit the city centre at the weekend.
Torrential downpours battered Carlisle and parts of north Cumbria on Saturday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction, closed businesses, and widespread travel chaos.
The Market Hall was hit and shops in The Lanes Shopping Centre were also forced to close after sustaining significant flood damage.
Market Hall managers praised the incredible local response, thanking the army of traders, staff, and locals who grabbed mops and rolled up their sleeves to help clear the water.
A post on Facebook said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to our amazing traders, staff, and members of the public who rolled up their sleeves to help with the clean-up.
“Your kindness, hard work, and community spirit have been incredible, and we’re very grateful for all of your support.”
People are now urged to rally around the independent traders to help them bounce back from the disaster.
