David Peattie

David Peattie, CEO of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), is set to become the new WiN UK Patron.

WiN UK’s mission is to address the industry’s gender balance, improving the representation of women in leadership, and engaging with the public on nuclear issues.

David Peattie joined the NDA as its CEO in 2017, after a successful career with BP, where he held a number of executive, technical and commercial positions.

During his time in the nuclear industry, David has pushed hard for improved diversity across the NDA group and industry as a whole.

The role of Patron involves helping to gain government and industry support on specific subjects that raise the profile of WiN UK’s objectives, as well as supporting activities at conferences and with the media.

David Peattie said on his appointment as WiN UK Patron: “I’m honoured to take on this role with WiN UK because I am passionate about the positive impact of diverse teams in business. As part of the Nuclear Sector Deal, we’ve committed to increasing the number of women working in our sector from 22% to 40% by 2030.

“I have a huge respect for Adriènne Kelbie, the CEO of Office for Nuclear Regulation, who, in her time as WiN UK Patron, has achieved so much in driving many businesses and individuals to make a difference across the industry.

“There’s no doubt that WiN UK has an important part to play in making change happen. WiN UK have been instrumental in developing and recently launching the Gender Roadmap in partnership with the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG). This initiative has also been fully supported by the NDA and the sector-owned action plan is a major step forward in supporting the industry with guidance to achieve gender parity. It’s through dialogue, activities and events at a national and regional level, that WiN UK work to remove barriers and open up opportunities for women to join and progress in a wide variety of roles.”

Jack Gritt, President of WiN UK, said: “David Peattie’s appointment as our Patron is great news for us and reflects, yet again, the importance of gender balance in our industry. We’re energised by his
Women in Nuclear UK positive view of the future. Everyone has a part to play in supporting the attraction, retention, and successful progression of women at every level in the nuclear industry. We are delighted to welcome David Peattie as a hugely powerful advocate and role model for our mission.”

David Peattie takes up his new role on 1 January 2020 and the newly structured WiN UK Executive Board is delighted and excited to work with him in the coming years.
