Customers advised to check before they travel ahead of Storm Dennis

TransPennine Express Class 185 Train

TransPennine Express (TPE), along with other train operators and Network Rail, is advising customers travelling this weekend to check before they travel and to allow more time to complete their journeys.

Heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast and The Met Office have amber warnings in place for both Saturday 15 February and Sunday 16 February. Due to this, services are likely to be disrupted, and speed restrictions may be in place for the safety of those using the railway.

In order to keep customers moving over the weekend, TPE have lifted ticket restrictions for customers. Any TPE customers travelling on Saturday with advanced tickets after 12:30pm will be able to travel on any service beforehand. While customers who have a ticket dated for Sunday and decide not to travel will be able to travel on Monday 17 February.

TPE will also be running an amended timetable for West Coast Mainline services, with no TPE trains running between Preston and Carlisle, however, ticket acceptance is in place with Avanti West Coast. Services between Edinburgh and Newcastle will run at a reduced frequency, with TPE customers able to use the next available service should their train be cancelled due to Storm Dennis. Full details of this can be found at: https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/travel-updates/service-disruption-this-weekend

Liz Collins, Deputy Managing Director for TransPennine Express, said: “We’re working closely with Network Rail, who will be monitoring Storm Dennis over the weekend. Customer safety is ultimately our biggest priority, so we are urging our customers to check before they travel and to allow extra time to complete their journeys.

“To ensure that customers won’t be disrupted too much by Storm Dennis, we will be running an amended timetable on some routes. Should our customers be affected by the bad weather and are delayed by more than 15 minutes – they will be entitled to Delay Repay.”
