Stobart Aviation has appointed Simon Williamson as General Manager to oversee operations at Carlisle Lake District Airport.
In this new role, Simon will manage operations at the Stobart Group-owned and operated airport and play a leading part in commercial development.
He will be responsible for managing, supporting and developing the relationship with internal and external stakeholders and partners, to ensure the ongoing growth and success of the airport.
Simon has a breadth of experience in the aviation industry, having previously worked as Commercial and Sales Manager for Aviator MAN Limited. Prior to that, he was Executive Director of Indigo Lyon Limited.
He has been involved in the negotiation, execution and implementation of contracts with Etihad Airways and Pakistan International Airlines, to the value of more than $8m.
The appointment comes more than six months after commercial flights launched at Carlisle Lake District Airport for the first time in 26 years. Routes via www.loganair.co.uk start from £39.99 for Belfast, and to Dublin and London Southend from £44.99 – including 20kg of baggage allowance.
Glyn Jones, of Stobart Aviation, said: “It is fantastic to welcome Simon as General Manager of Carlisle Lake District Airport. With his extensive experience in aviation sales and services consultancy, he will be a valuable member of our expanding team.
“In January, we celebrated our six-month anniversary since the launch of commercial flights and Simon’s appointment comes as the airport continue to grow from strength to strength. He will play a vital role in supporting the local community, as well as with our freeport bid alongside Carlisle City Council.”
