Iconic Lake District Fell Race for Fell Runners Association 50th Birthday

The Heart of The Lakes Rydal Round has been chosen as one of a series of 50 fell races to celebrate the Fell Runners Association turning 50. This challenging nine mile clockwise route round the Fairfield Horseshoe is the opening event for the annual Ambleside Sports. 2020 also marks the 25th year that local cottage company Heart of the Lakes have sponsored the event.

Matt Hartnett says, ‘We are proud to have been supporting the Rydal Round since 1995. Ambleside Sports it’s an authentic slice of Lakeland culture so it’s fantastic to see the race included in the birthday celebrations of the Fell Runners Association.’

Carolyn Meneaud of the race organisers Ambleside AC said: ‘This is a great honour for us, and for one of the finest races on the calendar.’ Eileen Jones, from the Ambleside Sports committee, who helps administer the race on the day goes on to say, ‘We are thrilled that our Blue Riband event, the Rydal Round, is included in this list to celebrate all that’s great about fell running. It’s the race that starts our proceedings every year, after the opening address, and we’re all going to feel extra proud this time.’
