Penrith and Eden Museum has secured a grant of £4,300 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a project working with locals who have dementia.
The project is called Remembering Eden and will see the museum working in partnership with care homes and dementia groups in the Eden Valley. Second Penrith Scouts will also take part.
They will help create reminiscence boxes, as well as an art installation which will be one of the attractions at an exhibition of images and objects telling the stories of Eden Valley residents past and present. The exhibition will run at the museum from March to June 2020.
Penrith and Eden Museum is operated by Eden District Council.
Councillor Mary Robinson, the council’s Commercial Services Portfolio Holder said: “We know that reminiscence and art practice are fantastic tools to promote social inclusion and improve the quality of life of those living with dementia.”
Museum Curator, Rebecca Short said: “We are delighted to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players. We are confident the project will support local people and those living with dementia to feel better connected to their community and help us to create a fantastic resource.”
