A Lake District storyteller is asking for support to help his story about whisky smuggler, Lanty Slee.
Steve Wharton started writing the tale when he found Lanty Slee’s wedding certificate in the Ulverston parish records whilst researching his own family history. The historical record debunks the popular conception that Lanty was of Irish descent. That gave Steve the idea to include the stories of St Patrick and St Bega to his tale too.
Steve is hoping to publish Holy Water For Whisky as a limited run of 100 paperback books and as an audiobook featuring English and Irish folk songs. Supporters can pledge money through the Kickstarter website. Funds currently stand at 38% of his £525 target with a deadline of Friday 20th March. The budding author is hoping to find backers who will be rewarded with their own copies of the book and tickets for live performances, depending on how much they pledge.
He is also offering performances throughout the year for groups who would like to enjoy this Lake District tale in the comfort of their holiday cottage. To help Steve please search Holy Water For Whisky on www.kickstarter.com.
Steve will be giving a live performance of Holy Water For Whisky, followed by Cumbrian and Irish folk music on Friday 20th March at Moorforge Viking Settlement, near Cockermouth.
