Along with many organisations, Kendal Town Council’s Management Committee have reviewed our working arrangements in light of the recent Government advice regarding COVID-19. We have decided to make some changes to protect our workforce and Councillors.
Our main office in the Town Hall foyer is now closed to general walk-ins but we remain contactable by email at [email protected] or telephone on 01539 793490 leaving a message during our opening hours of 9.30am-12.30pm Monday to Friday.
All Committee and Council meetings have been suspended, with the exception of Planning Committee where social distancing arrangements have been made. We will make use of all available IT solutions to maintain contact and continue the decision making process.
A number of our upcoming events have been cancelled/postponed including the Annual Town Assembly on 6th April and Mayor Making on 21st May. At present it is envisaged that the current Mayor Cllr Alvin Finch and Deputy Mayor Cllr Doug Rathbone will continue past the end of their current term.
The Kendal Walking Festival 8-11th May and the Kendal Unity Festival 20th June have been cancelled.
Given the advice on large social gatherings, it is also unlikely that the VE Day events that were in the process of being planned for the 8-10th May will go ahead and as such we have taken the decision not to progress any further with organising these whilst we await guidance on this national event.
Chair of Management Committee, Councillor Stephen Coleman, said “Our top priority is the health of our members, officers and the general public. Given the current situation nationally, we have reluctantly taken these measures. We are actively looking at virtual meeting options to allow Committee meetings to continue, without the need for meetings in person. We will monitor the national situation and will resume normal meetings as soon as it is viewed safe to do so.”
