A 30-seat Lakes bistro is adapting the way it serves its food to ensure staff continue to earn an income in light of government advice to self-isolate and avoid visiting cafes, bars, restaurants and theatres to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Kysty, Ambleside, owned and run by brothers Ryan and Craig Blackburn, who also operate the acclaimed Michelin starred foodie hotspot The Old Stamp House, are among the thousands of businesses across the UK affected by the government’s advice issued on Monday evening.

The casual eatery located in Cheapside, in the normally bustling Lakes village, re-opened its doors in mid-February after an interior makeover and the addition of improved kitchen facilities.

But now like all other restaurateurs up and down the country the pair have had to take a step back and consider their options to ensure that at least some income comes in to support the staff they employ.

In light of current circumstances, the pair have introduced a takeaway menu made up of Kysty classics so that people can continue to enjoy great value food but in the comfort of their own homes.

Dishes include Kysty’s famous Cumberland sausage rolls, our signature curried cauliflower soup, as well as a selection of sides and just the thing to complete your feast a selection of hearty desserts.

The new service kicks today and will run between 10am until 9pm Tuesday to Saturday. All people need to do is pre-order via telephone or just pop in place their order and return 10 minutes later to collect their food packaged in disposable and compostable Vegware packaging. For extra piece of mind all our drinks containers and our cutlery are also disposable and recyclable.

Under the current circumstances we ask people to use contactless payment methods and if they need to use chip and pin our payment devices will be hygienically sanitised after each transaction to give everyone a piece of mind.

We are unable to offer a delivery service at the moment as our team are focussing of developing additional dishes to add to our takeaway menu. We want to be able to offer a range of simple but wholesome dishes at affordable prices which you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home know that everything you eat has been made using quality locally sourced ingredients from our suppliers.

Kysty’s takeaway service is in addition to its existing restaurant offering, which is available daily with an early evening menu served between 5.00pm – 6.00pm (Tues – Fri) a dinner menu between 6.00pm – 9.00pm (Tues – Fri) and a lunch menu served between 12.00pm – 2.00pm on Saturday only.

To alleviate any possible concerns in light of government recommendations made on Monday night (16th March) regarding Covid-19 the team at Kysty have introduced a range of social distancing measures, including reducing the number of covers in its restaurant and increasing the distance between tables as well as introducing enhanced in-depth cleaning regime covering all spaces with the restaurant.

Chef Proprietor Ryan Blackburn said: ‘’There’s no doubt that this situation is unprecedented. We have to react to it for the sake of our businesses, for the sake of our staff and to pull together for our local community. We could be precious about the food we create but at the end of the day with an uncertain economic situation we have to be realistic and offer simple, wholesome, affordable food for people to be able to takeaway and eat in the comfort of their own homes. This way we can try to support both ourselves and local residents, after all we are all in the same boat!’’
