Meet Cosmo the quarantine foal

Cosmo and Izzy

On Sunday 19th April, the Oak Tree team celebrated the birth of Cosmo, a beautiful colt. His mum, Izzy had arrived at Oak Tree only a month ago with 6 other ponies, following an RSPCA case, and it was very obvious she wasn’t alone!

On arrival, the seven ponies needed an urgent vet check and farrier trim following their previous experiences. The vet confirmed that Izzy was expecting a foal and the Oak Tree team monitored her carefully throughout the following weeks to check that the pregnancy was progressing well.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Izzy went into labour and little Cosmo was born, watched over by his Fury, Izzy’s devoted field mate. Cosmo was quickly up and about exploring the world as the day broke!

Caroline Johnson, General Manager at Oak Tree explained “When our equine team realised that Izzy was expecting a foal on her arrival, they monitored her closely to ensure the remainder of her pregnancy went smoothly. We were absolutely delighted when little Cosmo was born, and feel that he is a real beacon of hope for our community during these challenging times.

“We would like to thank the equine vet team at Paragon and Will Strivens our Farrier for all their support since Izzy has been on site. We also look forward to a time when our community can meet Cosmo and, until lockdown ends, we will keep everyone updated on his progress on our website and social media.”
