Carlisle City Council’s Bulky Waste collection service is due to restart and will be taking bookings from today (Monday 4 May).
The City Council postponed the service in late March to ensure that critical services continued during the Coronavirus outbreak.
Residents will be able to book a collection from this week and collections will start from Tuesday 12 May. Collections cost £24 for up to three items. A collection date will be allocated depending on where the resident lives.
To protect the public and council collection crews, additional measures have been put in place. Residents are advised of the following:
- If anyone in your household have (or have recently had) any symptoms of coronavirus or if your household is self-isolating, we will be unable to collect items at this time.
- Please place items out for collection by 7am on collection day, or no sooner than the night before.
- Items must be on the pavement, very end of driveway, or can be placed in the back lane if you receive a back-lane refuse collection.
- Please make sure that all items are easily accessible for our crews and that you do not block the whole pavement/back lane access.
- Please either wipe down items with antibacterial wipes or spray them with a disinfectant/antibacterial spray once placed outside for collection
To book a collection, please visit www.carlisle.gov.uk/Residents/Bins-and-Recycling/Bulky-waste-and-special-collection or call 01228 817200 during normal office hours.
Cllr Nigel Christian, Portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said: “Following the reintroduction of our garden waste scheme last week, we are now able to take bookings for bulk household waste collections. We’ve put some safeguards in place to protect our staff and the public, so please follow the advice.
“Thanks again to all our residents for their support and co-operation during these unprecedented times.”
