Water company creates home learning hub whilst schools are closed

As many parents across the country continue to juggle becoming home tutors for their own children while working and caring for loved ones since the lockdown began in March, water company United Utilities has created a range of educational water activities, to help with home learning.

To support children during this time of school closures, the company has created fun educational water related material, including, worksheets, quizzes, fun videos and experiments.

Each year United Utilities, through its education partner Kingfisher actively visits schools across the North West with its interactive water education programme, reaching 11,000 children aged 4 to 11.  But with classrooms closed the company has stepped up its online presence to help meet the challenge faced by parents and carers across the region, in trying to keep their children occupied and focused with fun learning activities.

Georgia Holland from United Utilities said “We can’t deliver our engaging learning sessions for children in the classroom, so we have developed a fun online educational resource.

“At times like this, with many of us trying to support our kids’ education we hope this will help everyone, by delivering some fun that will help children stay happy, whilst also learning”

From learning all about water, science, creating your own time capsule, through to understanding what shouldn’t be flushed down the sewers, children will find lots of activities to keep them occupied, with the added bonus of getting hands-on with some safe to do at home experiments.

The company has already had over 3,000 visits to its home learning hub and is keen to get as many young people interested in understanding about water and the importance it has on all our daily lives, from an early age:

“We are passionate about inspiring future generations to consider a career in the water industry, as there are so many opportunities in this sector for the next generation. It would be fantastic if through our education hub we introduce the world of water to our future engineers and scientists”, added Georgia
