A plan for how Allerdale Borough Council will achieve its goals for the community over the next year has been agreed.
At a virtual meeting yesterday (June 24), councillors on the Executive Committee agreed to adopt the Interim Delivery Plan, which sets out how the authority will deliver on objectives set out in the Council Strategy (2020-2030) which was adopted in December.
The Council Strategy sets the authority’s direction for the next 10 years and describes the kind of things the council would like to achieve for communities. To provide more detail about how these objectives will be met a four-year ‘Delivery Plan’ would normally be produced, however, due to the impacts of Covid-19 and the uncertainty the pandemic has brought, the council has produced this interim plan.
The now-agreed interim plan outlines how the council will continue to support communities and businesses through the immediate crisis, while also making sure that the organisation is stable and council services are running as effectively as possible.
Key projects and activities include:
- Analysing the financial impacts of Covid-19 and build into revised budget decisions for 2020/21
- Tackling and reducing fly-tipping through enforcement action and educational activity focusing resources on known hotspots.
- Developing and starting to deliver a Climate Change Action Plan
- Developing plans for economic recovery including a new Economic Growth Strategy for Allerdale to ambitiously rethink and rebuild the local economy over the longer term
- Delivering technology projects to provide improved digital platforms and self-service options for customers
- Continuing with work on the council’s Maryport regeneration programme and Workington Town Deal bid
- Deliver a grants pot to support sporting clubs and associations to improve accessibility, participation and to support recovery from impacts of the coronavirus pandemic
Marion Fitzgerald, portfolio holder for policy, governance and people resources, said: “In developing the interim plan consideration has been given to key projects and programmes planned prior to the pandemic as well as to new tasks driven by our response. We have considered their priority and feasibility in light of the current climate and the resource demands placed on council services.
“I think it would be fair to say that while all our strategic priorities remain important, the ‘thriving towns and villages’ and the ‘resilient communities’ themes will be more in the spotlight over the next year as we work to support our communities and help our economy rebuild.”
