A Cumbrian domiciliary care provider has been accredited with the Living Wage Foundation.

The companies Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Bellcare receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.30 and with 130 members of staff Bellcare is one of Cumbria’s largest domiciliary care companies, catering to the county’s most vulnerable and those looking for extra support.

Carol and Ian Wilson took over the well-established company in 2006 and they strive on providing excellent employment and career opportunities. Sarah Hayton who works for Bellcare at the Workington office spoke highly of her employer: “I love working for Bellcare because of everything they do for me and my colleagues. I believe it is one of the best care companies around, they go above and beyond for us all.

“With everything that’s going at the moment they keep us safe and have done since the very start of the pandemic. Carol gaining the Real Living Wage accreditation for the company is just the icing on the cake!”

Bellcare is based in the North West region, with nearly a quarter of all jobs (20%) paying less than the real Living Wage – around 584,000 jobs. Despite this, Bellcare has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

Carol, Director of Bellcare was proud of her company’s achievement: “As a Company, Bellcare does all it can to make our Bellcare Family feel valued and appreciated.

“We know how hard being a Community Home Carer can be, getting accredited to the Living Wage Foundation will go towards showing respect and admiration to our workforce.”

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Bellcare has joined the movement of over 6000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

“They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as Burberry, Barclays, Chelsea and Everton Football Clubs, Lush, and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Bellcare, believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”
