A paraglider has been rescued after landing awkwardly half way down cliffs at St Bees Head.
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Teams and ST Bees RNLI were called at 3:56pm yesterday, Friday 24 July to help in the search of the paraglider who had been reported as overdue.
St Bees RNLI volunteers and their colleagues from the Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team carried out a search between Whitehaven Harbour and St Bees.
The casualty was located near St Bees on a small slope near the old Coastguard lookout point, about half way down.
The RNLI volunteers remained at the scene as the Coastguard teams safely recovered the uninjured paraglider to a waiting ambulance to be checked over.
A spokesman for Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Deploying from the old Coastguard lookout on top of the head, a cliff technician was lowered down to the casualty’s location where by he was safely lowered to the bottom and thankfully able to walk off around the rocks to a waiting ambulance.
“An excellent result with no reported injuries.”
Dick Beddows St Bees RNLI Operations Manger said: “This was a great multi agency operation with a good outcome. Thank you to everyone involved.”
