Four charged with murder of Lee McKnight

Detectives investigating the murder of Lee McKnight have charged a four people with murder.

The following people have been charged and are due to appear at Carlisle Magistrates tomorrow (29 July)

  • Jamie Davidson, 25 of Beverly Rise, CarlisleĀ has been charged with murder.
  • Carol Edgar, 46 of Charles Street has been charged with murder.
  • Coral Edgar, 25 of Charles Street, Carlisle has been charged with murder.
  • Paul Roberts, 50 of Grey Street, Carlisle has been charged with murder.

Janice Edgar, 40 of Hale End Road, Carlisle has been charged with assisting an offender and possession of drugs with Intent to Supply.

A 47-year-old woman from Carlisle has been released on bail.

Charges were brought this evening (28 July) following a large scale investigation by Cumbria Constabulary led by T/Detective Superintendent David Stalker.

Police were contacted at 5.24am on Friday 24th July to a report of a body found having been found in the river Caldew, formally identified as Lee McKnight.

The black Nissan Navara previously circulated has been recovered and is being searched and examined.

The investigation team continue to urge anyone who has seen Lee in the early hours of 24th July to make contact with the incident room via 101. The team are also interested in the movements of the black Nissan Navara, and any suspicious activity around Wreay area.

Anyone with information should contact police by calling 101 and ask to speak to an officer from the North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, quoting incident number 36 of 24 July. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
