English Heritage welcomes back visitors to historic properties across Hadrian’s Wall

Hadrian’s Wall

Following a time of closure during the Covid-19 lockdown, English Heritage have opened up its sites along Hadrian’s Wall.  The charity which manages 20 properties along the Wall from museums, milecastles and a castle closed all its staffed sites in March. These are now being slowly re-opened.

New measures have been introduced by the charity to ensure the health and wellbeing of members, visitors, volunteers and staff, and those who visit can expect their day out to be a little different with social distancing in place. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, visitor numbers will be limited and all those planning to visit (including Members) will have to book in advance on the English Heritage website and arrive during their time slot. Only those with pre-booked tickets will be permitted entry, although once on site, visitors are welcome to stay as long as they like.

At a time when many people have had to cancel planned holidays abroad and with the rise of the staycation, the Wall offers an opportunity to get off the beaten track, beat the crowds and enjoy some much needed leg stretching and fresh air.

Lynn Rylance, Head of Historic Properties at English Heritage commented: “We have really missed our members and visitors while our sites have been closed and we’re looking forward to welcoming them back. One of the many beauties of the Wall is its diversity as well as the amount of space it has to offer. It’s the perfect place to run around and explore.”

Visitors must book their tickets in advance www.english-heritage.org.uk/reopening
