Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were called to a building fire on Mill Street in Frizington.
Fire crews were called at 1:22am today, Friday 21 August.
The fire involved the roof void in a row of domestic terraced houses.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and a 10.5 metre ladder were used by firefighters.
“The fire service remained in attendance for approximately three hours.”
