Coronavirus business grants scheme launched in Carlisle

Cllr John Mallinson

A new coronavirus business grants scheme has been launched in Carlisle.

The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) will be paid out for every period that Carlisle is under national or local Tier 3 restrictions.

Funded by the government, the scheme will be administered for the Carlisle area by Carlisle City Council. It is a discretionary grant scheme for businesses that have been severely affected by the current lockdown restrictions but have not been legally required to close. In addition, businesses that are legally required to close but do not pay business rates, so are not eligible for LRSG, may also qualify.

The criteria and online application form are available at www.carlisle.gov.uk/ARG

Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr John Mallinson said: “The launch of this business grants scheme is in addition to the support provided by the Local Restrictions Support Grant, which we opened for applications last week. We urge businesses to check the criteria for both schemes and if they think they are eligible complete an online application form for the appropriate funding scheme.”

Once received, the council aims to process applications as soon as possible. Applicants are reminded to have all necessary documentation accessible before starting on their application. More details are available on the website.

The council also launched a further funding grants scheme for businesses last week. Businesses forced to close during the national government restrictions (5 November – 2 December) may be eligible for a Local Restrictions Support Grant. Businesses that have had to close but have adjusted their operation – such as through the introduction of a ‘click and collect’ service – may also be eligible for this grant.

The criteria and online application form are available on www.carlisle.gov.uk in the Business Support section on the homepage. A direct link is: https://bit.ly/3j8NmfV

The council has previously administered three government grant schemes: the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant, Small Business Grant and Local Authority Discretionary Grant Schemes, delivering approximately £28 million worth of grant funding to local businesses.
