A PENRITH man has appeared in court after he ran towards a moving car on Norfolk Road and jumped on the bonnet.
The court was told how Andrew William John Dunne, 29, jumped onto the bonnet of a moving BMW car on July 10 and caused £250 worth of damage.
Police were called and Dunne ran away through car parks and back alleys in the town, but was caught by officers who gave chase, said prosecutor George Shelley.
Dunne of Skiddaw View, Penrith, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, magistrates’ were told he has 22-criminal convictions from 43-offences.
Sara Budniak defending explained that Dunne has mental health issues and explained this was a reckless act which he admits, it is hoped when he is released from court today (MON) he will be under guidance of the mental health team and can then take control of his life.
The presiding magistrate said this was a reckless act, you were jumping onto the road towards moving cars, this must have caused the victim a “degree of shock”.
He has to pay the victim £250 for the damage caused, there were no-court costs because of his limited means, the compensation was more important in this case.
