Simon Fell MP

A new guide to help people dealing with mental health issues has been launched by Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell.

Keeping Your Mental Health in Check, aims to offer tips and information on making sure people across Barrow can look after their mental health.

The guide has come about after the Government announced a major reform of the Mental Health Act.

Mr Fell said: “Our mental and physical health are just as important as each other. That’s why, particularly at the moment, we need to make sure that we, our friends and family look after our mental health as much as possible.

“This short guide offers help during this time which can be scary for many, not just here in Barrow, but across the country and includes a host of useful contacts as well as advice.”

The guide can be found at www.simonfell.org/mentalhealth

At the heart of the proposed reforms to the Mental Health Act is greater choice and autonomy for patients in a mental health crisis, ensuring the act’s powers are used in the least restrictive way, that patients receive the care they need to help them recover and all patients are viewed and treated as individuals.

These reforms aim to tackle the racial disparities in mental health services, better meet the needs of people with learning disabilities and autism and ensure appropriate care for people with serious mental illness within the criminal justice system.
