Employees from BAE Systems are among those volunteering to support NHS staff as the coronavirus vaccination campaign continues.
This week members of the Ulverston Self Isolation group, set up by BAE Systems manager Neil Fleming at the start of the pandemic, will continue working alongside GPs and other health staff in the town’s health centre.
Neil volunteers in his own time to help out.
“Over the weekend over 1,000 people were immunised and there are more sessions planned this week,” Neil said.
“As a volunteer it’s a great learning experience and we’re delighted to be able to help out at a time when it’s needed.”
Earlier this month in Barrow, apprentice designer and sea cadet Jay Zaccarini joined members of the Rotary Club of Furness to help immunise patients at the Alfred Barrow Centre.
“Through a partnership with the sea cadets where I volunteer, the Rotary Club were asking around for volunteers to help out so I decided to jump at the opportunity and offer my help with the vaccine rollout,” Jay said.
“I was really interested to see how the whole process of a vaccine roll out works.
“I was really impressed with the organisation of it and the speed at which they’re doing the jabs.”
