Staff at a Keswick dental practice are backing a local charity’s campaign to keep it open.
The Lake District Calvert Trust near Keswick offers outdoor adventure breaks for children and adults with physical and learning difficulties.
The centre has already lost over £1 million as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and is on the brink of closure.
No financial help is available in England and Wales to support outdoor activity centres and the trust launched its Emergency Bounce Back Appeal.
When Fitz Park Dental Practice heard about the appeal, its 12 staff said they wanted to help.
They are taking part in a 5k a day your own way challenge.
A spokesman said: “We wanted it to be open to us all, to fit in around working, home-schooling and childcare.
“Our goal for the month of February is to run, ride or walk at least 5k every day.
“We have set up a group on Strava and are all supporting each other and logging our miles.
“We will upload photos on our Facebook/Instagram page and hopefully raise some much needed sponsorship money for the Calvert Trust.”
“The response and enthusiasm from the whole team has been incredible,” said principal dentist Simon Welch.
“The staff thought it was a fantastic idea and would be a great team building exercise. It has been such a challenging time for everyone because of coronavirus and this feels like we can turn our energy towards something positive and worthwhile.”
Fitz Park Dental Practice was established over 100 years ago and today is a family-run dental practice.
