A woman has been ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register as part of her punishment for molesting a man while “fuelled by drink”.
Aleya Middleton, 45, committed the offence in May last year, repeatedly grabbing the victim’s genitalia.
“He kept shouting ‘get off, get off’,” prosecutor Tim Evans told Carlisle Crown Court today. “But she didn’t stop.”
In the aftermath, Middleton then shoved the man who had said in an impact statement: “I don’t think her behaviour is normal.”
She denied sexual assault and a physical assault but was convicted of both crimes after a magistrates’ court trial.
Middleton was sentenced today when the judge, Recorder Philip Grundy, observed she had been a hard-working woman despite issues which he noted were “alcohol-related”.
After hearing mitigation and considering background information, Recorder Grundy imposed an 18-month community order. Middleton, of Parkside Road, Kendal, must complete 100 hours’ unpaid work and a rehabilitation requirement, and sign the sex offenders’ register for the next two years.
“You have a responsible job,” Recorder Grundy said to her as he announced the sentence.
“I am sure your family and friends – those that know about this offence – will be staggered that you are stood in the dock before me.”
