A patient has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash on the A596.
The A596 was closed in both directions at Micklethwaite following a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision.
Cumbria police were called to the collision at about 8.40am this morning.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance are also at the scene.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
However, the incident has now been cleared and the road reopened.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We flew at 8.42am and were on scene in 12 minutes.
“We had a doctor and paramedic onboard and treated a patient alongside the North West Ambulance Service before he was airlifted to hospital in Newcastle.”
The spokesman confirmed the flight took 30 minutes.
