A Penrith woman has been told a prison sentence is “inevitable” after she admitted engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a schoolboy.
Sophie Hindmarch, 27, heard she is now also subject to the sex offender notification requirements in respect of her guilty pleas to a raft of criminal offences which were committed against the boy during 2019.
Hindmarch appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning remotely over a video link.
During a short hearing, she admitted nine counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a boy aged in his early teens.
Each of the charges reflects criminal conducts in specific locations other than the final count. This last count states that illegal activity occurred between Hindmarch and the male on “no less than five occasions” other than that in the eight other charges.
The judge, Recorder Alex Leach, was told that while a psychiatric report on the defendant had been provided, the probation service had not yet been able to prepare additional background information to put before the court.
That will be put together in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Hindmarch, of Raiselands Croft, Penrith, was granted conditional bail and told that her sentencing hearing is due to take place at the crown court on April 8.
“It is now necessary for the probation service to prepare a report on you so that the sentencing court can know all that is necessary to then determine what the appropriate sentence will be,” said Recorder Leach.
“You will understand that a custodial sentence is inevitable in this case, and you will also understand that by receiving a further period of bail, no indication is being given as to the likely outcome.”
