Emme-Rose and Lilli-Mae have raised money for Young Bay Hospitals Charity

Two young fundraisers who have donated more than £3,000 to charity have been invited for a VIP tour of their local hospital.

Emme-Rose Deakin, 6, ran a mile a day in January, raising £1,443 for the Bay Hospitals Charity.

Then in February, eight-year-old Lilli-Mae Archer took on a 5K a day challenge and raised a further £1,705.

To say thank you for their fundraising efforts, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust chief nurse and deputy chief executive Sue Smith OBE has invited Emme-Rose and Lilli-Mae to visit Furness General Hospital for a tour.

“We’re so grateful to Emme-Rose and Lilli-May for everything they’ve done,” explained Sue.

“We’re very proud of their achievements and we hope that they are too. It’s wonderful to see such young children doing their part to support the NHS.

“As a special thank you to both girls, we would like to invite them, when it’s safe, to visit the hospital so we can thank them in person and show them how the funds they have raised have been spent.”

Emme-Rose was inspired to fundraise for the hospital by the COVID-19 pandemic and smashed her initial target of £150.

“Emme-Rose has done really well and is proud of how much she’s raised,” said dad Phil.

“We’ve framed her T-shirt and the story about her in the newspaper so she can remember how well she has done.”

Lilli-Mae bravely continued her challenge after a tumble from a climbing frame, eventually clocking up 91 miles and passing her £1,400 fundraising target.

Mum Stephanie said: “She’s done brilliantly and we’re so proud of her.”

This was Lilli-Mae’s second fundraising effort for Bay Hospitals Charity. In June last year, she raised £1,545 by cycling 53 miles in a week.

As well as the tour of the hospital, both children will receive a certificate of achievement to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

Bay Hospitals Charity funds the latest equipment for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to help make patients more comfortable and ensure they get the best possible care and treatment.
