Solfest gets licensing go-ahead from council

Razorlight, set to headline Solfest

A licence has been granted for the Solfest music festival, which is set to go ahead this summer.

Allerdale Borough Council’s licensing panel last Friday granted a licence for the playing of live music and recorded music, as well as the sale of alcohol, for the Solfest music festival, planned this year for August 27, 28 and 29.

The application to the local authority sought to move the festival across the road from its previous site.

It is now planned to take place on land at Holly House, Goodyhills, Mawbray, near Maryport.

Camping for the festival will take place on land at the North Lakes Country Park.

Following consultation on the application, Cumbria Constabulary agreed with the applicant, Simon Kay, to include a condition in the licence incorporating measures for the “mitigation of COVID-19” into the festival’s 2021 event management plan.

It was agreed that measures will be in compliance with “whatever national guidelines are in place at the time of the event”.

Panel members requested at Friday’s meeting that a further condition be added to the licence, requiring the applicant to local the festival’s 24-hour telephone line to be located in the festival site office for the duration of the event, to ensure that it could be answered promptly.

This was in response to reports considered by the panel that the helpline, which was made available to the public at the 2019 event, was “not always available”, according to Allerdale Borough Council’s legal and licensing manager Jill Morgan.

“The applicant indicated that he was agreeable to such a condition,” she added at the close of the meeting.

Tickets for Solfest are on sale now.

A number of well-known acts are lined up to perform at the festival, with headline acts Razorlight, Maxïmo Park and a DJ set from Basement Jaxx all on the bill.

Other acts lined up to perform include Echo and the Bunnymen and The Amazons, plus dozens more.

Organisers warned yesterday that tickets for the festival are selling fast, and expressed gratitude for the “constant support” the festival has received.
