A driver failed a roadside drug test near Kendal – just one day after taking their driving test.
Cumbria Police said the driver was stopped last week by officers, who were concerned by the manner of driving.
The driver took a roadside drugs wipe which came back positive for cocaine.
He was arrested and released under investigation to allow time for the blood test results.
The arrest came during the first week of Operation Spotlight – a national road safety operation which focuses on the Fatal Four:
- Speeding
- Using a mobile phone at the wheel
- Not wearing a seatbelt
- Driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs
Cumbria Police’s last operation resulted in over 140 drivers being arrested for drink or drug driving.
