A motorist who suffered serious injuries after a crash on a main road in Cumbria is being investigated for drug driving.
Police were called at 8.43pm on Sunday to a crash on the A596 between Wigton and Thursby, involving a DAF HGV and a BMW 330D.
The driver of the BMW, a 29-year-old man from Aspatria, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
He is currently under investigation for driving whilst over the prescribed limit for a specified drug.
The front-seat passenger in the BMW, a man in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he remains in a critical condition.
The rear passenger in the BMW, a 24-year-old woman from Wigton, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the HGV, a 55-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries.
