Coby-Jay, Joshua James and Skylar Flynn killed in a crash in Dalton on Father’s Day

The family of a father and his children killed in a crash on Father’s Day have paid tribute to their lives after the man responsible for the crash was jailed.

David Logan was jailed for ten years and 10 months at Preston Crown Court yesterday and was disqualified from driving for 16 years and five months.

Logan, 48, of Broughton Road, Dalton pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving, driving over the prescribed limit of alcohol and criminal damage which is in relation to the death of the family’s dog.

The court heard that on June 21 last year at about 2.30pm Logan was driving a silver Peugeot 206 on Abby Road towards Dalton.

Logan mounted the kerb colliding with pedestrians, Joshua James Flynn, Skylar Flynn, Coby-Jay Flynn and their pet dog Troy who all sadly died at the scene.

The family of Joshua James Flynn, his son Coby-Jay Flynn and daughter Skylar Flynn and their beloved dog Troy have paid tribute to them following yesterday’s sentencing.

In her victim statement, Emma Flynn said: “That day, the day it happened, was just a normal day. I went off to work leaving Josh, Coby, Skylar and Troy to spend the day together.

“I did not know that when I left them, that it would be the last time I saw my family alive, the last time that my life was normal.

“I’ll never get the chance to hug and kiss them again, laugh with them, have tea with them, spend days away or at home with them. I’ll never get the chance to say good morning or good night, I’ll never hear my children or husband say “I love you” ever again.

“My heart is broken, and nothing will fix it, the day they died is the day my life stood still.”

In tribute to them, all the family said: “From the minute we received this terrible news our whole world has been turned upside down and no words can describe how devastated we are feeling. We are utterly heart broken and upset by the loss of Joshua, Coby-Jay and Skylar.

“We would like to thank everyone for their kind messages of support, the cards and donations received.

“Joshua was a family man and a good guy. He would do absolutely anything for anyone and was a genuine, lovely man. He was a loving husband and doting Dad.

“Joshua was fitness mad and loved going to the gym and exercising.

“Coby-Jay was a typical teenager, obsessed with computers and computer games in particular his Nintendo.

“He was a lovely young man, kind, happy and upbeat.

“Skylar like any young girl at the moment was Tik Tok mad. Like her brother, she enjoyed playing on computer games in particular Roblox – exchanging pets.

“She was always so happy with a lovely smile on her face.”

The beloved family dog, Troy, a Yorkshire terrier also died, he was described as ‘another member of the family, such a good and well-behaved lad’, his loss is also felt.
