A leading agricultural show is set to return – but not in the usual format.
The annual Cumberland Show in its usual format for 2021 was postponed earlier in the year. Despite the best efforts of organisers, current COVID-19 restrictions have made even a smaller full-scale event “not practical”.
The Cumberland Agricultural Society will instead hold The Cumberland Agricultural Society Equine Event at East Park, Brisco on June 12. This will be a competitor only event.
The show will be dedicated to the society’s equine secretary, who lost her life to cancer earlier this year. The society said “our competitors, judges, stewards,
and the society have all have benefited from her expertise and we shall miss her greatly”.
Some of the final 2021 qualifiers in the hunter classes for the prestigious Royal International Horse Show held at Hickstead, will be hosted at the event, which will also see an array of light horse classes.
“Classes for all” are promised, with first-year ridden classes offering the youngest competitors the chance to take to the ring on their own, the NPS silver medal classes for breeders in the mountain and moorland section, and overall championships awarded to the ridden section, the working hunter section and the in hand section.
Entries will be taken online for this year’s event, with live results expected on show day.
Organisers say preparations are ongoing for next year’s event.
