Almost £30,000 has been raised in just two days to help a West Cumbrian mum battling multiple sclerosis.
The treatment which could help Brogan Johnston, 26, of Workington, is not available for her on the NHS and she needs to go to Mexico – at a cost of £55,000.
She and her partner Scott, of Workington, launched a crowdfunding campaign and have been overwhelmed by the support in just two days.
They have already raised £29,498.
Brogan Johnston was devastated when MRI scans found that she had a form of MS called Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
It started with blurry vision and Brogan went to her GP, who referred her to the hospital.
She was diagnosed quickly with the condition and Brogan, who is married to Scott and has a five-year-old daughter Adalyn, said: “It felt like someone had put a timer on my quality of life. I suddenly thought I might not be able to do the same things with my daughter.”
The couple researched treatment for the condition and found Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation could help.
Brogan has booked the treatment at Clinica Ruiz in Mexico on August 30. The clinic claims that the success of the treatment is between 85 and 95 per cent.
Brogan said: “I thought we would get a few hundred quid and then we would have to push it to get more but it has gone the opposite way.
“I would like to say, from the bottom of my heart, a huge thank you. We are so thankful. The response is so overwhelming.
“Me and my partner have shed tears because we are so touched by everybody’s generosity.
“Even people we don’t know have been donating big sums of money.”
