More than £2,200 was raised at an auction in memory of young farmer Hannah Brown whose death aged just 26 left the agricultural world in deep shock.
Hannah had become a well-known and greatly respected figure at Skipton at her family farm in Newton-le-Willows, then later in her own right as both a breeder and show winner.
Hannah moved to Dufton in 2019 to live with farming fiancé Ben Richardson and last August the couple had a daughter, Millie, now nine months old.
Eden Valley YFC chairman Tom Barker, club president Catherine Chappelhow and member Warren Porter, along with southern district president Alan Barker, travelled to Skipton mart to express the club’s gratitude to — and support of — Ben Richardson and Millie, of Ghyll House.
Mart operator CCM Auctions had kindly agreed to auction two sheep donated in memory of Ben’s fiancee Hannah Brown.
Ben expressed his wish that all the money raised from the sale of the pure-bred Blue Texel gimer hogg and the Swaledale ewe with a Mule gimmer lamb be donated to Eden Valley YFC.
Tom thanked Ben on behalf of the club for this generous donation.
It is Ben’s wish that if Millie ever wishes to join the YFC movement, then hopefully the Eden Valley club will still be there to welcome her.
The Blue Texel was donated by Hywel Williams and was sold five times in total, being purchased in turn and re-offered by W. and M. Bland, Robert Atkinson, Andrew Philips, Martin and Val Brown and eventually Karen and David Shuttleworth, who have aptly named it Millie.
It realised £1,360 after being sold, re-offered then resold no less than five times in total.
