Young entrepreneurs market launches in Whitehaven

Young traders can take a free stall at a new market in Whitehaven next month.

Copeland Council is launching a new monthly Young Entrepreneurs Market from June 12 and people aged between 16 and 25 are invited to register their interest in hosting a pitch or stall to sell and showcase their wares, crafts, hobby or passion.

The pitches and stalls on King Street are being offered for free at this initial launch stage.

The council carried out a public survey into its future market offering last year and attracted over 600 responses.

The Young Entrepreneurs Market, which is being launched on a trial basis, is first of many new concepts to emerge from the public consultation.

Jenny Brumby, Copeland Council’s business liaison officer, said: “We are excited to launch the Young Entrepreneurs Market to offer a fresh platform and exciting opportunity to Copeland’s budding entrepreneurs and talented young individuals on a regular basis.

“I have shared the plans with Whitehaven Town Council, many local shopkeepers, retailers and businesses, and the support has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I am contacting all our schools, colleges and youth groups to work with them on these plans. If you have a business, hobby or craft to showcase, or a passion for a topic, please get in touch with me.”

To register an interest in taking a stall, or for more information, email [email protected].
