
A Carlisle driver has appeared in court charged with causing the death of an 84-year-old pedestrian by dangerous driving.
David Anthony Barron appeared before the city’s magistrates’ court on Thursday after the fatal collision on June 31, 2019.
Barron, 55, of Hillcrest Avenue in the Harraby area of Carlisle, appeared by video link and faced a charge of causing the death of 84-year-old pedestrian William Hughes after a collision on New Street in Wigton at about 4pm.
He is accused of driving a white Mercedes Sprinter van dangerously.
Mr Hughes died a short time after the collision.
The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court by district judge John Temperley. He will appear on June 22 and was granted unconditional bail until his next appearance.
