Two Whitehaven Sea Cadets have been given a prestigious award from The Queen.
The cadets are celebrating this week after finding out their hard work has been recognised in the prestigious annual Lord-Lieutenants’ Awards.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenants are the representatives of the Crown for each county in the United Kingdom and are appointed directly by Her Majesty The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Cadet Jack Fleming is one of only four cadets recognised in the county and has been awarded a Lord Lieutenants Commendation in recognition of his work to make sure that young people’s voices are heard at the highest levels within the sea cadets organisation.
He has served both as a cadet representative on the Whitehaven Unit Management Trustee Team and also as vice chair and then chair of the Lakeland District cadet forum which represents cadets from Carlisle to Morecambe.
Also, P.O. (SCC) Kerslie Luktung has been awarded a Lord Lieutenants Commendation for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers in recognition of combining his frontline work within the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic with supporting not only the Whitehaven unit, but also units further afield across the the North West in his voluntary role as area staff officer for junior cadets.
The awards ceremony will take place at Carlisle Cathedral in September.
