Biker airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after five-vehicle crash in West Cumbria

A man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a five-vehicle collision near a West Cumbrian school.

Police were called at around 8.50pm last night to the incident at the crossroads on the A5086 near Easglesfield Paddle Primary Academy, near Cockermouth.

The collision involved a Ford Focus, Volkswagen Polo and Mercedes and two motorcycles.

A motorcyclist, aged 53, from Norwich was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria infirmary in Newcastle with life threatening injuries.

Another motorcyclist aged 56 from Norwich was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle sustained serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford, a man in his 20s from Maryport, the driver of the Volkswagen, a woman in her 40s from Cockermouth, and the driver of the Mercedes, a woman in her 20s from Workington, were uninjured.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses to contact them with any information they may have in relation to the collision.
