Organisers of Cumbria’s leading music festival said the fate of their event lay in the Government’s hands today.

Kendal Calling, at Lowther Deer Park, near Penrith, will be held from July 29 to August 1.

Coronavirus regulations are set to be relaxed on June 21, but Prime minister Boris Johnson will hold a press conference later today to discuss the next steps in England’s roadmap to recovery.

It is believed that the regulations will be extended for another four weeks.

The extension could have a major impact on music festivals, nightclubs, choirs and hospitality businesses.

The team behind Kendal Calling, which is sold out, said: “It’s an incredibly important day for everyone in our industry as everything hangs on the decisions made by the Government later today.

“Once we receive the guidance, we’ll be able to have conversations with our production team, our local council, and our suppliers to see how it will affect this year’s festival.

“We have been working non-stop to bring you the festival you deserve, meaning tonight’s press conference an incredibly important moment for us.

“Your patience and support is always appreciated and so we ask that you bear with us over the next few days while we take stock of tonight’s announcement and have a chance to properly and thoroughly understand the guidance that follows.

“Rest assured, we will let you know how the announcement impacts Kendal Calling as soon as we possibly can.”
