Popular Lake District tearoom forced to close due to COVID-19

A popular Lakeside tearoom has had to close its doors today after a member of staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Colin Hindle, owner of Granny Dowbekin’s, said it has had to temporarily close the Pooley Bridge tearoom, as of 1pm today, as a staff member had received a positive coronavirus test.

NHS Test and Trace had advised Mr Hindle to make it known that it was not a front of house team member, so there had been no direct contact with any members of the public.

Mr Hindle said: “People that have been visiting us are not at risk. It is just us who have had our own internal interactions that are having to self-isolate,”

In total, 15 staff members are having to isolate for 10 days. Mr Hindle said it meant the tearoom was forced to close.

He added it was hoped the tearoom would reopen on Saturday July 10.

In April, it was revealed that Mr Hindle had put Granny Dowbekin’s on the market for £2.5 million so he could concentrate on his writing career.
