Workington Town’s in-form centre/second-row Caine Barnes will miss next Sunday’s home game with Coventry Bears through suspension.
Barnes had been given 10 minutes in the bin at Barrow last week for a shoulder charge and the Rugby League disciplinary committee has followed up with a one-match ban.
Adam Walne, the Barrow player who faced a disciplinary hearing after a high tackle in the Workington game, escaped without a ban.
A former Seaton Rangers amateur, Barnes has been one of the standout players this season as Town are challenging for the League One title and he scored the opening try after a minute in yesterday’s 66-0 win over West Wales Raiders.
Town are in second place behind Barrow but crucially, after the draw at Craven Park, still have the home game against the leaders later in the season.
The two sides have the best defensive records in the League.
Coach Chris Thorman said: “The players are buying into the defensive side of the game now.
“Most buy into the offensive side but when it comes to doing the nitty gritty stuff consistently, defence is the most important element of the game.”
