Maryport’s Netherhall School has elected a new head boy and girl.
Following a vote among their peers and a formal interview with deputy headteacher Mark Bailey and the head of sixth form, Ciaran Laverty has been elected head boy and Millie Routledge head girl.
Ciaran is studying A-levels in history, maths and physics. In the future, he intends to pursue a career in nuclear or petroleum engineering.
Ciaran has his sights set on continuing his studies at degree level, and would like to attend university or take up a degree apprenticeship locally.
A fine scholar and talented sportsman, Ciaran wishes to support younger students to achieve sporting success as a way of developing their skill, health, leadership skills and self-esteem.
Millie is studying A-levels in geography, history and maths.
Described as an outstanding student by teachers, she is currently preparing an application to Oxbridge, where she would like to study history.
Her ambition is to pursue a career as either a history teacher or lawyer.
Like Ciaran, Millie has a passion for supporting her fellow students at Netherhall. She has expressed the importance of sixth formers as role models who can be powerful advocates for younger students.
Joseph Green is deputy head boy and Eliška Belejova is deputy head girl.
Joseph is studying A-levels in English language, history and religious studies and hopes to read history at university with a view to becoming a history teacher in the future.
Eliška is studying art, English language and French.
She hopes to pursue a career in the performing arts, and would like to study in France to perfect her language skills.
A statement from the school said: “All four students are a credit to themselves, their families and to Netherhall School. They will provide a great example and source of inspiration to their peers and to the younger students of the school.
“We would like to thank outgoing head boy Nathan Bewick and head girl Abigail Jackson who, with the support of deputy head boy Liam Parker and deputy head girl Beth Hay have given outstanding service to the school over the past year.
“They have set exceptionally high standards for the incoming team.”
