Hundreds of students and pupils showcased their talents during a Cumbria-wide celebration of learning.

Cumbria Education Trust’s (CET) first Be The Best You Can Be Week saw young people from its eight primary and three secondary schools join in a packed programme of events.

The purpose of the week was to give all pupils and students the opportunity to push, challenge and express themselves in as many ways as possible – encompassing the trust’s core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

They were encouraged to develop skills and talents across all aspects of school life and show what it means to be part of the CET community celebrating together.

More than 50 events, competitions, challenges and celebrations took place, including an annual CET mile event at schools in Brampton, Carlisle, Eden, Longtown, Whitehaven and Workington.

Other activities included school sports days, performing arts events, character development activities, outdoor challenges, fieldwork, curriculum-based challenges, design and technology challenges, creative and craft competitions, oral presentations, awards and celebration ceremonies and a Talking Together/Learning Together Learning Festival at The Whitehaven Academy.

All schools also joined in CET’s virtual dance showcase, One Big Dance, a video of which was shared across the trust this week.

Central organiser Nicola Tweddle said: “Feedback from staff and students has been universally positive. Lots of students and pupils were exposed to a variety of opportunities and able to ‘aim high’ and to achieve success in ways outside of the classroom.”

Schools have been sharing examples of events and activities across their individual websites and social media platforms.
