
A leading Cumbrian training provider has recruited a new senior hire to lead its contract to upskill workers across the county.
Darren Pond takes on the role of business manager for work-based learning at PHX Training and will lead a team of nine new training coaches delivering in work qualifications in association with the EDGE partnership, led by Carlisle College and commissioned by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.
PHX Training, which has offices in Barrow, Carlisle and Workington, will deliver the Skills Support for the Workforce contract in the region, alongside other partners and with Carlisle College, the accountable body, to help employees gain new skills and qualifications.
It will also support individuals through funding provided by the Adult Education Budget, again working with Carlisle College.
Commissioned by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, the contract has been tailored in response to identified local skills challenges.
Darren joins PHX Training with over 20 years’ experience working in business management and 11 years working in the welfare to work sector, including promoting equality and diversity amongst business and in the community.
Darren will also lead a project to upskill 1,500 employees in businesses across Lancashire. The programme is working with Lancashire Local Enterprise Partnership to help businesses become more productive and plug skills gaps across the county through training and qualifications and is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions alongside the European Social Fund.
