West Cumbrian pigeon fanciers will race again from Flookburgh this weekend after a successful young bird opener on Sunday.
Both the Derwent Valley and West Cumberland Federations had early liberations and enjoyed excellent returns.
It was a perfect start for the youngsters as on several occasions releases from the Flookburgh airfield have proved chaotic.
Many fanciers were locked up and gone inside half an hour with all their birds back – a bit like the old days.
The West Cumberland Federation is going to race on Friday morning with the Derwent Valley sticking to the traditional Saturday and hoping for an early release.
It’s only a short pipe opener but has proved difficult but this time everything went well.
One loft particularly pleased with their performance on Sunday was that of John and Liz Walters who did the double in Workington by winning both Victoria and Social Limit clubs.
