Former Carlisle United and Workington goalkeeper Tony Caig has taken up a new full-time coaching role at Dundee United.

Caig had moved to Falkirk at the same time as former Reds boss Danny Grainger at the end of last month.

But it was just a part-time role and he has moved to the full-time job with the blessing of the Falkirk club.

Caig,47, played 469 games before hanging up his boots and as well as Carlisle (284) and Reds (49) played for the likes of Blackpool (61), Vancouver Whitecaps (39) and Hibernian (19).

He moved into coaching in 2013 and has experience across both England and Scotland.

Tony joined Livingston in 2019 as goalkeeping coach and spent a brief spell as interim co-manager alongside David Martindale.

Following the end of last season, he joined Falkirk as goalkeeping coach but has decided his future now lies at Tannadice.

He said: “I am delighted to be appointed as goalkeeping coach at Dundee United.

“I feel that I’m joining the club at a really exciting time. I can’t wait to get started working with the staff, players and, especially, the goalkeepers up at the High-Performance Centre.”

Head coach Tam Courts added: “We are really pleased to have secured Tony as our new head of goalkeeping.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience as a player and coach, which is something that strengthens our staff and provides our goalkeepers with daily access to one of the most respected goalkeeping coaches in the game.

“Modern goalkeeping is evolving all the time and I want our goalkeepers to have the best service so that they can keep developing and have maximum impact on the pitch.”
