Greater Manchester Police says it is not investigating and it has not received any complaints after Wayne Rooney claimed his legal team had raised concerns over party pictures.

It was reported that the former England and Manchester United footballer had instructed his lawyers to file a complaint to police following claims of a “set-up”, after pictures of him partying with girls from Barrow were shared online.

The national media say that among those Rooney was partying with were Elise Melvin and Brooke Morgan, who Cumbria Crack understands are both from Barrow.

The events are believed to have taken place at Chinawhite club in Manchester on Saturday.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing on the part of Rooney, who is now the manager of Championship side Derby County.

When approached by Cumbria Crack, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We are not aware that this has been reported to police. There is no police involvement at this time.”

It is reported that Cheshire Police are investigating a claim of blackmail, but that this does not involve the girls pictured in the images that were shared online.
