A senior police officer has spoken of his relief after six people were sentenced for the murder of Carlisle man Lee McKnight.
“There is a recognition that the jury has had to sit through over seven weeks of evidence that they needed the requisite time to reach their decisions and I am grateful that they have listened to the evidence and come up with convictions which are commensurate of the culpability of those involved.
“Clearly there is pressure but that is around wanting to attain the right result for the victims in this and get justice for Lee’s family. I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a degree of pressure or nerves but I was also confident that this has been a really effective investigation and that the right people were answering those charges and having that determination made about them.
“Really pleased that we got the six convicted this will provide justice for Lee, his family and I hope some form of closure. This was a premeditated attack, orchestrated by Jamie Davison, they were all jointly involved and duly convicted.
Our role is to build as strong a case as we can and present it to the Crown Prosecution Service for progression into the judiciary. Our reliance is then on that fair trial to reach the correct outcome.”
