Workington Town chairman Les Smallwood has expressed his disappointment at Sunday’s postponement of the big League One clash with Barrow.
He said: “Advanced ticket sales had been going really well as there was a lot of interest in the game between the two top sides.
“I was actually feeling very confident about the game even though we were going to be without a couple of players.”
That now gives Town three games to fit in mid-week with all being postponed in the last month through COVID repercussions – Coventry (home), Rochdale (away) and now Barrow (home).
“We should be able to fit in Barrow midweek, as well as Rochdale but Coventry won’t be as easy.
“However when you get into a Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday, Wednesday scenario you get into another aspect given the toughness of the game we play.
“Rugby League have also said that no part-time club can be forced into playing – both clubs have to agree on a date,” said Smallwood.
Town will not have played for five weeks when they go to Keighley next Sunday.
