Police in Whitehaven have blasted vandals after a memorial to a fallen soldier was covered in graffiti.
Officers on patrol found that the plaque at St Nicholas Gardens has been defaced. The flowers used for the graffiti have stained the slate plaque. Officers have tried to clean the slate with no luck and have requested specialist cleaning so that the memorial is not damaged.
A statement from Copeland Police said: “This is the sort of behaviour that is a blight on our community and will not be tolerated. Offenders will be dealt with robustly.
“Memorials to those who gave so much so that we can have the freedoms we do today are not there to be defaced and abused. Disgusting behaviour.”
